Understanding the Roles
Election Judge Authority

All Election Judges have equal authority and responsibility to uphold the law on Election Day. All Election Judges act as a board in making decisions and the majority rules.

Election Judges, by majority decision, have the sole power to:

  • Allow or disallow a voter challenge
  • Remove unauthorized Pollwatchers and those deemed a disruption to the election process
  • Limit the number of Pollwatchers

Polling Place problems

All persons present in the Polling Place or within the campaign-free zone must obey the lawful orders of the Judges. Elections Judges should:

  • Resolve problems honestly, fairly, and as quickly as possible
  • Contact County Clerk’s office for advice
  • Seek assistance from local law enforcement officers, if necessary
